Join ACH member Dr. Heather Froehlich, digital scholarship specialist at the University of Arizona libraries, for this special session on navigating the academic job market.

The academic job market is a minefield, as anyone will tell you, but as with all things in the academy there is a hidden curriculum behind the scenes. This workshop is grounded in the philosophy that if you are going out on the market you are allowed to want to make choices for yourself, and lays out what to expect when you're expecting to go on the job market. Having been on both sides of the academic job market, both as a candidate for different kinds of jobs and as a participant in searches informs the structure and presentation of this workshop, which will over an overview/discussion on the following topics: Writing effective cover letters, 1st round interviews, 2nd round interviews, what the candidate doesn't see, and a section solely related to applying to jobs that benefit from your skill set but are not Professor of Thing, which may or may not be located in an academic-adjacent environment. Heather makes no claims of being the jobs guru, but is here to walk you through what to know as you start the conversation.

Dr. Heather Froehlich is the digital scholarship specialist at the University of Arizona libraries, where she supports digital activities including text and data mining.

NOTE: This will be set up as a zoom meeting (not webinar) in order to facilitate open conversation. We encourage folks to be brave and open! That said, you are welcome to change your display name and/or keep your camera off if you wish.
